3 Leadership Lessons

To introduce the next giveaway for this week, I’d like to share three short leadership lessons.

Listen. Listen to God, listen to mentors, listen to trusted experts and “thought leaders” in your sector. Also, listen to your gut.

Learn. Learn all you can about your craft/field/area of ministry, learn about how to genuinely engage with other people, learn how to listen, learn how to love. Also learn what makes you tick – your strengths and weaknesses.

Love. Love God. Love the people God created. Remember, all humans are created in the image of God, regardless of religion, ethnicity, gender, economic status, life circumstances, etc. (Once, when discussing this topic, I said that this list even includes that kid in the third grade who picked his nose and ate his boogers. I repeat it because it helps us grasp the depth and breadth of God’s love.)

the_next_worshipmentor-for-lifeIf you leave a (significant) comment in response to this post, your name will be entered into a drawing to win a copy of Sandra Van Opstal’s “The Next Worship: Glorifying God in a Diverse World” and Natasha Sistrunk Robinson’s “Mentor for Life: Finding Purpose Through Intentional Discipleship.” Both of these books provide amazing insight for those of you who are leaders and who are developing leaders. Also, if you sign up for the mailing list (see the purple box on the right side of the page), you’ll earn an extra chance to win.

I’d love to hear more about your journey as a leader or as someone who develops leaders. Feel free to comment below!

P.S. While searching for free images to use for this post, I had a surprising encounter. My search for “leaders” turned up a lot of images of women in leadership. It wasn’t what I was expecting at all, but what  pleasant surprise!
